Who we are
Take Up Space is created by GenWest; an organisation dedicated to achieving gender equity in Melbourne’s West!
We work collaboratively with communities, government and local agencies to provide family violence response and prevention services, and secondary consultation for health, community and other service providers.
About Take Up Space
A lot has changed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic (to say the least!), and we know this can have an effect on things like relationships, school, work, home-life, sense of community and overall health and wellbeing.
Take Up Space encourages young people to share their experiences with others and recognise that you are not alone.
Throughout this project, we focus on topics that are sometimes hard to talk about, like:
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Sexual wellbeing
- Healthy relationships
Working closely with members of the community, we have developed a series of resources that support young people in these areas. Together, we want to promote the voices of young people and encourage them to TAKE UP SPACE!
About the web series
Featuring the voices of seven community ambassadors and three healthcare professionals, the Take Up Space mini web series celebrates the unique identities, experiences, knowledge and stories of people in Melbourne. Watch it here.
Filming took place at some of our favourite spots in Footscray. Each video was shot, directed and edited by the wonderful Nikki Castle.
We would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this land, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation, and pay our respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging. We’d also like to acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and that this was and always will be Aboriginal land.
